Surgical Oncologist Phillip Ley, MD, FACS Joins Merit Health Medical Group

JACKSON, Miss., February 21, 2017 Surgical oncologist Phillip Ley, MD, FACS, has joined the practice of Merit Health Medical Group.
With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Ley specializes in breast cancer surgery, and performs additional surgeries to treat melanoma, sarcoma and endocrine (thyroid) surgery. He brings the benefits of advanced research, training and techniques to his patients.

Dr. Ley completed pharmacy school at the University of Texas in Austin before enrolling at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at Texas A&M University’s Scott & White Clinic in Temple, Texas, then went on to complete a surgical oncology fellowship through the University of Texas at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
“Dr. Ley is an excellent surgical oncologist who is compassionate to his patients throughout their cancer journey,” Merit Health Woman’s Hospital CEO Sherry Pitts said. “In addition, he is an advocate for breast cancer research and prevention, and is continually exploring options for his patients, such as genetic testing for patients with a family history of breast cancer.”
Dr. Ley is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of a variety of organizations, such as the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. As part of his work, he is a clinical cancer genomic research associate for City of Hope National Medical Center, a renowned comprehensive cancer center, in Duarte, Calif.
